SOUTHEASTERN CONFERENCE BASEBALL TOURNAMENT

May 26, 2021

Tanner Allen

Hoover, Alabama, USA

Hoover Metropolitan Stadium

Mississippi State Bulldogs

Postgame Press Conference

Florida 13, Mississippi State 1

THE MODERATOR: We've got Tanner Allen of Mississippi State. Tanner, if you could just open it up with a brief statement. Then after that, we'll take questions for you.

TANNER ALLEN: It was a rough day for us, but that's baseball. They came out and swung the bat really good, and their guy was really good on the mound and just beat us. That's baseball. Move on to the next day.

Q. How do you guys get ready to go? How do you flush this one as quickly as you can and get ready for a big ball game tomorrow?

TANNER ALLEN: It's baseball, man. We take it game by game. We didn't have it today, and they showed up and played hard, man. I respect that team. Coach Sullivan over there has got those guys playing good at the right time of the year. It's baseball. Come out, show up tomorrow, and be ready to go.

Q. I know what happens on the mound doesn't affect anything you guys do with the bats, but when you guys go out there, obviously, in the hole pretty early, how hard is it to fight back from that, and what's the mentality in trying to do so in a game where you fall behind so early?

TANNER ALLEN: This league is very, very tough, man. We got behind early. I felt like we pressed a little bit and tried to get back in the ball game. We're going to fall behind again, probably in the postseason, so we're going to have to learn to bounce back and just keep playing, man. Next play.

Q. Tanner, obviously, every year there's always a lot of talk about -- Chris the other day was talking about how much this tournament means and that you guys came here to win. You're one game away from being out of it, but you're a couple wins away from maybe going on a run and winning the whole thing. How hard is it to kind of juxtapose those mentalities and keep your head straight when you're trying to win these games?

TANNER ALLEN: It's very simple. Tomorrow's a new day, and we're just going to focus on playing one game at a time. We can't win the whole championship tomorrow. We're focusing on us. We're focusing on playing a good game tomorrow and let the rest take care of itself.
