Quick Quotes

Q. You graduated from Loyola when?

DEVIN JOHNSON: Three weeks ago.

Q. This year?

DEVIN JOHNSON: This year.

Q. Is this your first USGA championship?

DEVIN JOHNSON: Yeah.

TYLER ANDERSON: This is, yeah, for both of us.

DEVIN JOHNSON: We've tried a few times but this is the first time we actually got in.

Q. You had to grind it out, but you're in the semifinals. Just give me your thoughts on getting to the Final Four of the four-ball.

TYLER ANDERSON: All my thoughts have been just play like it's your practice. I've prepared well enough for this, and it's good to see something good finally come out of it.

DEVIN JOHNSON: It's pretty surreal for our first time to go this far is pretty spectacular in my opinion.

Q. Did you guys have much success in college?

DEVIN JOHNSON: Yeah, this year our team --

TYLER ANDERSON: This guy, he's not going to tell you, but he won individual conference.

DEVIN JOHNSON: Our team won Missouri Valley Conference and I was the individual champion, and we've had a lot of success this year at Loyola. It's been fun.

Q. You guys went to regionals?

DEVIN JOHNSON: We did go to regionals. We finished up last week on Wednesday.

Q. How close were you?

DEVIN JOHNSON: Not close, but the experience honestly prepared us well for this.

Q. So you won the individual title of the Missouri Valley? That was about a month ago?

DEVIN JOHNSON: Yeah.

Q. Was that your only tournament win this year?

DEVIN JOHNSON: Yeah.

Q. What are you guys doing -- are you guys thinking about professional golf? Are you looking to do something else?

DEVIN JOHNSON: We're both planning on going back to Loyola and playing another year of golf.

Q. You're going to take advantage of the COVID year?

DEVIN JOHNSON: Yeah.

TYLER ANDERSON: I have two years left and then I hope to go pro after those two years are over.

DEVIN JOHNSON: He actually has two years and I just have one.

Q. Do you think Sister Jean is having any effect on you guys this week?

DEVIN JOHNSON: I'm sure she's back home cheering us on.

TYLER ANDERSON: She's always up there looking down on us.

Q. Is she a golf fan?

TYLER ANDERSON: She sent us out like a video clip.

DEVIN JOHNSON: After our conference win she sent us like a Zoom recording.

Q. Obviously this match came down 18, you hit it on the green in two. What did you have?

DEVIN JOHNSON: I had 256 in. It kind of dropped quite a few degrees in the last hour or so, took one extra club, choked down.

Q. What did you hit?

DEVIN JOHNSON: I hit 3-wood.

Q. From 256?

DEVIN JOHNSON: Mm-hmm. I would have liked to have been a little bit more right, but anywhere on this front half of the green I knew would give me a good chance to two-putt for birdie.

Q. What was that, about three feet left?

DEVIN JOHNSON: Three for four feet, yeah.

Q. Give me what your sense of your nerves were knowing you had to make it.

DEVIN JOHNSON: Once he made par I wasn't as nervous. It was just firm and center the whole way.

Q. You don't know who your opponents are going to be until sometime tomorrow.

DEVIN JOHNSON: Yeah.

Q. Is there any type of game plan? Does it matter who you play?

DEVIN JOHNSON: Stick to what we've been doing. We've ham-and-egged it pretty well this week, so hopefully we can continue to do that and see what happens.

Q. You guys' match was like 1-up for the entire way. It was tight. The last I think from hole 11 through 17 you guys tied.

DEVIN JOHNSON: Honestly the only holes that were won were on par-5s, and on hole 9 we won with a par. Other than that it was just -- I'm pretty sure it was only the par-5s that we actually won holes on, and then they won hole 3 with a birdie, but other than that it was just par-5s.

Q. Do you think at all about what the exemptions are going to be if you win this thing?

TYLER ANDERSON: We have no idea what they are. We'll find out when we --

Q. You get a spot in the U.S. Amateur if you win.

DEVIN JOHNSON: We're just trying to win, and whatever happens after that happens after that.

Q. How many times have you guide for USGA championships?

DEVIN JOHNSON: This is our second.

TYLER ANDERSON: For this one. This is our second for the Four-Ball, and then I did the U.S. Junior three times, U.S. Am twice. I've been kind of close a couple times.

DEVIN JOHNSON: Yeah, I've done the U.S. Am twice and then this one three times.

Q. You guys are both from the Chicago area?

DEVIN JOHNSON: Yeah, I'm more west, he's more north.

TYLER ANDERSON: North suburbs, west suburbs.
