Nathan Smith

Todd White

University Place, Washington, USA

Chambers Bay

Quick Quotes

Q. You win 5 & 4. It looked like you guys got up from the start pretty quickly.

NATHAN SMITH: You know, it was just -- we were just trying to put one foot in front of the other. We teed off in a rainstorm. It's freezing. And yeah, we got a couple up early. They're a dynamic team, and just no lead is safe out here. We were just trying to hang on, just tried to stay in each other with each other.

Q. How many under were you guys today?

TODD WHITE: 3, I don't know. Something like that. I think probably 3. That's the beauty of this place is that you never really look at what you're doing in relation to par because every hole is this unique challenge, and you just try to stay in the moment the best you can and hopefully a few putts fall along the way.

Q. You guys could be getting the champions from two years ago in the next round, so it would be the new guys versus the old champs, the only two sides that have played in every one of these things. You guys' combined USGA events is probably more than any of the rest of the field combined.

NATHAN SMITH: Well, there's so many great teams, obviously they're --

Q. But talk about possibly playing Scott and Todd. Those guys, it's like you two guys, been around the block.

NATHAN SMITH: Yeah, they're great players, both playing great. And more than that, they're great guys, too. If it happens, it happens, and we know we'll have to really play well because they've been playing great for years.

Q. You had a match I believe with Scott down in Johns River; is that right --

NATHAN SMITH: Oh, Island? Yeah, that was a great match. Went extra holes. But they're both playing great, and obviously they're continuing, so we'll just see what happens.

Q. Is that the only time you've played Scott in match play? Have you played either one of those guys?

TODD WHITE: I have not played -- I played with Scott, was paired with him in some stroke play events, but we've never been paired against each other in match play. I guess that's kind of unique considering both of us are from the Carolinas, and we don't exactly have Carolinas type weather right now. What a great opportunity it is for Nathan and I to compete. If we do end up playing Scott and Todd, then hey, that's a great match. We'll see what happens.

Q. You'd probably like to see them Wednesday afternoon --

TODD WHITE: Wednesday afternoon would be much better. But like the NCAA bracket, you play who shows up and try to advance.

Q. The weather seemed to change quite a bit.

TODD WHITE: It's much nicer now than it was when we teed off.

Q. But you guys have played enough USGA events you've played in every type of weather condition.

NATHAN SMITH: It's just this was -- yeah.

Q. Have you ever played in snow in a USGA event?

TODD WHITE: Bandon one year with the sleet.
