PURE SILK CHAMPIONSHIP PRESENTED BY VISIT WILLIAMSBURG

May 23, 2021

Sarah Kemp

Williamsburg, Virginia, USA

Kingsmill River Course

Quick Quotes

Q. 1-under 70 in the final round of the Pure Silk Championship. What are you feeling right now?

SARAH KEMP: You know, I shouldn't let the last putt bother me because it didn't cost me, but I would have liked to make that.

Overall today was a little bit tougher, so I thought a round in the 60s, I was looking at 3- or 4-under might be pretty good.

I didn't do that, but I shot under par. Played really solid. I would've liked to have made a few more putts, but if someone said to me at the beginning of the week, You're going to have a solid fourth, probably would've taken it.

Q. You came into this in the penultimate group of the day with a chance to win for the first time out here. Was that at all on your mind?

SARAH KEMP: Yeah, of course. Yeah, I thought about it. Not going to lie. I thought about winning, which I'm okay with. Like I want to get comfortable with that. Sure, I got a little ahead of myself thinking that, but the more I put myself in the situation the better I'm going to be at it.

Yeah, I definitely thought about it.

Q. There were a couple putts that looked like -- you looked a little frustrated that you hit a good putt and they didn't quite get there.

SARAH KEMP: Yeah.

Q. Was that the problem?

SARAH KEMP: Yeah, my pace especially yesterday. I hit a couple today, more so yesterday. My pace felt like it was a little better today. But, yeah, that's just probably a little bit of nerves, to be honest, being in the last group yesterday, second to the last group today.

Again, I'll just get better, because the more I put myself in the situation and this being in contention happens, I'll get better at that.

Q. And since you were out on the golf course you didn't see that 15 turned out to be the turning point in the golf tournament. You chose to layup. Can you walk us through the decision making there.

SARAH KEMP: Yesterday I had a similar yardage and I didn't hit it a very bad shot and just kind of came down and went in the hazard and I took a drop and got up and down there.

So I just didn't -- I could have got there, but it's a really difficult green to miss. You can just hit it off and you'll go down in that hazard. That used to be long rough. If it was still long rough I definitely would've hit 3-wood.

You roll down and go into the hazard and it's unplayable in there, and left is not great either. My wedge play has been pretty good, so I backed my wedge play. I hit a good wedge but just didn't make the putt.

Q. And second Top 5 of the year. What kind of momentum do you take going forward from this week?

SARAH KEMP: Heaps. I'm playing great, so this is fun. This is so much fun. I loved being nervous. I loved being in contention. I want to do it more often. So I take heaps of confidence from a this week.
