PURE SILK CHAMPIONSHIP PRESENTED BY VISIT WILLIAMSBURG

May 23, 2021

Jessica Korda

Williamsburg, Virginia, USA

Kingsmill River Course

Quick Quotes

Q. Back and forth day for your whole group it seemed. The peaks were high; valleys were low. What was it like competing in that group out there?

JESSICA KORDA: Um, I'm trying to think of something nice to say. Sorry. Hold on. Give me a second.

No, it was fine. I didn't make any putts today and that was the biggest difference obviously. The greens are just baked. The whole place is baked. So it was a little tough to be aggressive, especially when you're chasing and you kind of need to be.

And then just in general just getting any rhythm out here has been really tough the three two days. Five and a half hour rounds then threesomes on the weekend. It's really definitely what (indiscernible) we're looking for here.

Q. Yeah, that is not fun for anybody.

JESSICA KORDA: No.

Q. Take me back to your first win. When you're playing in a group with someone who wins for the first time in their seven-year career. What do you remember?

JESSICA KORDA: I didn't wait seven years, but it's amazing. Obviously all the hard work is paying off, and Wei Ling played great today. That eagle she made I told her she needs to ask for a membership.

You know, when it's your day, it's your day. She had a fantastic chip-in on 2 I think -- no, 3, sorry, for birdie. And she just played really solid all day.

I think she only made one or two mistakes all day. That's the difference. You just need one, a little sprinkle of luck and, two, keep yourself in it.

Q. When is the last time you were in a competitive -- last time you were in a tournament that you remember a swing that took place like on 15?

JESSICA KORDA: I feel like they happen almost every event, unless you're like leading by a bunch. There is always a swing. But that was a pretty significant one, and then obviously I didn't make my putt before hers.

It was almost like a little bit of a match play then because I think I was one or two back. I don't remember. I was like, okay, I need to put some pressure on her a little bit coming in. It just didn't happen.

But these days happen. I've had a two and a three the last two weeks, so I'm trending.

Q. Yeah, exactly. You already won this year. When you keep putting yourself in contention I would imagine one of those times it would be a breakthrough. Do you feel like you're playing championship level golf with your game to where it's just a matter of time where you get win No. 2, No. 3?

JESSICA KORDA: Yeah, for sure. I'm proud of myself for keep putting myself up there. Kyle and I have been doing a lot of good work. This week was a little bit of guessing, especially we had a lot of wedges in and the ground is firm and numbers weren't the same. We are very, very tired.

There was a lot of thinking going into this whole week. I'm excited for U.S. Open.

Q. Week off for you?

JESSICA KORDA: Uh-huh.

Q. Do you do more resting or more practicing?

JESSICA KORDA: I'll look for my coach and see what I'm doing. I'll definitely rest the first couple days and then we're going to have a team call and make a game plan, I think.

Q. Ever played Olympic Club?

JESSICA KORDA: No.

Q. Heard anything?

JESSICA KORDA: No.

Q. A fresh look at it.

JESSICA KORDA: That's how I like it.
