PURE SILK CHAMPIONSHIP PRESENTED BY VISIT WILLIAMSBURG

May 20, 2021

Katherine Kirk

Williamsburg, Virginia, USA

Kingsmill River Course

Quick Quotes

Q. Katherine, what a great round here today. Started off a little bumpy. How do you feel after starting off a little bumpy but having a great round?

KATHERINE KIRK: Yeah, I don't know, I think I played enough golf where I just kind of tell myself to stay patient. I've always known that I make bogeys, but thankfully I make a decent amount of birdies.

Just a matter of just, yeah, trying to give myself putts inside 15 feet. And, yeah, we managed to do that a few times. Yeah, there were some blunders on the card, so try and clean that up for tomorrow.

Q. Anything in particular you were working on before this event?

KATHERINE KIRK: I been hitting it really well, so just keep doing the same thing, and then just staying patient. I think I sometimes you get to a point where when you're hitting it well you try to force it, and that's the worst thing that can happen.

So, yeah, it's just a matter of kind of still doing my routines and reminding myself that it's good. I've just got to stay with the process, and it's the law of averages, it's got to turn around at some point.

Q. How excited are you to return to this event?

KATHERINE KIRK: This has always been one of my favorites events. I've been coming here since 2004. Yeah, obviously we've seen a few changes, but thankful to be back and, yeah, nice to see some crowds out.

Had my pro-am group out cheering me on today, so that was kind of nice. And I've got my husband coming in tonight and my godson and his parents, so we'll have a few more people ought cheering tomorrow, which is great.

Q. That's awesome. And seeing some familiar faces - Paula Creamer is back in the field - how is that, just to see more your friends and colleagues being out here?

KATHERINE KIRK: Yeah, obviously everyone has been through a lot in the last year and a half. Yeah, everyone has got a different story how they've handled things. I think for me, I'm just grateful that we're playing and we've got sponsors that have stuck with us.

I know our tour staff is working really hard to work through protocols and give us the opportunity to play. And the hard part is every place is different that we go and what they require. Testing requirements obviously haven't been fun for anyone, but it's part of the job.

Yeah, just thankful to be playing and finally getting fans back out.

Q. And speaking of fans, how much does that play into how well you do and players do in general?

KATHERINE KIRK: Yeah, you certainly love the energy that you get from people, and nice to see familiar faces when you do come back to a place that we've been to for, what, 17 years.

So I think, yeah, when you love golf as much as we do and you want to share that with other people, it's nice. Yeah, I think they enjoy it, too. So, yeah, getting people out and back in golf.
