PURE SILK CHAMPIONSHIP PRESENTED BY VISIT WILLIAMSBURG

May 20, 2021

Megan Khang

Williamsburg, Virginia, USA

Kingsmill River Course

Quick Quotes

Q. Megan, solid start, 3-under par. Take us through the day. Colorful scorecard.

MEGAN KHANG: A lot of birdies, a lot of bogeys, but definitely happy there were more birdies than bogeys. I've always loved coming back here. I love the people here in general. It's just overall a great vibe out here.

So I'm happy we're here and I'm happy with the first round. I mean, it's always a great start when you go birdie, birdie, birdie to start. I felt a little slow in the middle. I got a little frustrated because there were a couple silly bogeys.

Kurt just really tried to keep me in the moment and really just like stayed present instead of getting frustrated on the past.

Q. Most people we've seen out since last February. Is it enjoyable to see that and have that normal feel with some people screaming and clapping?

MEGAN KHANG: It's awesome to see people out here again. You don't realize how much you miss the crowds until you actually get the crowds. I see so many familiar faces, just from the volunteers to the people who always come every year. It's crazy how many friendships you make out here just interacting with them.

Q. How much is Solheim Cup on your mind as you play events like this?

MEGAN KHANG: I mean, everyone knows especially when it's Solheim Cup year it's a little more pressure. But like I've said in the past and I'll say it again, once I play good golf everything comes along. We're all here week in and week out, day in and day out just trying to win a tournament.

As long as that goal stays No. 1, I'm sure points will come along and it'll show like how my game is going to hold up.

Q. A lot of people try to peak their games for major championships. I'm just wondering if that's something that's in your mind as you play this last stroke play event?

MEGAN KHANG: For me it's kind of I'm learning myself like I do tend to have a different mentality to a major in previous events. So I've noticed that in the past few majors, and told my caddie and my dad that I've got to try to translate my major mentality versus a regular tournament mentality.

In the end it's a huge win, a great win in a career, and a win is a win no matter what event it is. And so it's just kind of I'm realizing the different kind of mentality I need to have coming to each event.

Q. You mentioned your long history at this event, that you Monday qualified and that kind of kicked off your affinity for the Pure Silk Championship. Take us through how much you do love this event and some memories that you have from Monday qualifying?

MEGAN KHANG: No, it's incredible. I stay with a host family this week. Every year I stay with the same one. The reason I met them was because when I Monday qualified at 17 years old there was a rain delay and we were like the further part of the golf course, like on 13, the par-3.

I was play and Candie Kung and they blew the horn and pretty much told us to walk all the way to the road on 14. Candie was like, I'm not doing that. I was like, Are we allowed to go into a house? They're waving us up to come sit inside and wait it out, so it was great. Candie was like, Yeah, let's go.

My dad got talking to my host dad and it's just kind of a beautiful friendship that's come a long way.

Q. That are their names?

MEGAN KHANG: Cliff Weddington and Jen Medovic.

Q. Do they live here full time?

MEGAN KHANG: They live here full time. They actually just moved into a new house so it's like an even better spot than before. Again it's the people and not the place.
