INTERNAZIONALI BNL D'ITALIA

May 9, 2021

Jannik Sinner

Roma, Italia

Press Conference

THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.

Q. This has been a big last few weeks for you with Miami, Barcelona, your new career-high ranking. Have you had time to sit and process? How have the conversations with your team been going?

JANNIK SINNER: Well, you know, it's obviously I think the last couple of weeks has been quite good, I have to say, you know, starting from Miami, then coming back on clay. I played actually the first week quite well in Monte-Carlo. So gave me a little bit of confidence for Barcelona and, you know, played some good matches there.

But at the end of the day, you know, these were all new tournaments for me. I never played Miami or Monte-Carlo or whatever. It's good for me making, you know, experience. You know, with my age and what I'm doing right now, it's trying to improve obviously day after day.

I have a great team behind me which helps me a lot, and, you know, I'm very looking forward to play some good matches.

Q. My question to you is yesterday the ATP announced they would be easing the restrictions on the bubble. I just want to get your thoughts on that situation.

JANNIK SINNER: I have heard something. I didn't heard everything, you know, because here the bubble is like every bubble. Then, you know, when I go in other tournaments and something changed, obviously I go to make information on what is happening.

You know, I heard something. It's obviously a little bit different if we can do that. It can be on some tournaments that they will make a bubble like we have now, it can be. But, you know, it's something different obviously, and it has been a very tough period for every player.

But, you know, at the end of the day that what I think is, you know, if we play in the morning and afternoon or evening, you know, playing tennis, at the end of the day I'm quite tired, so, you know, I prefer maybe to stay in the hotel and to rest there.

But everyone is different. It's good that the ATP is trying at the end of the day to make the life more comfortable for us.

Q. You mentioned earlier that all the tournaments like Madrid, Barcelona that we were talking about, you were playing them for the first time, but now you're in Rome where you have actually been here a couple of times, played here before. How much of a difference does it make going into a tournament where you're familiar?

JANNIK SINNER: Well, you know, here in Rome is, you know, especially for Italian player, it's like a home tournament, you know. At the end of the day people know you a little bit better.

It's just unfortunate that the first rounds, there is no crowd. But, you know, it's good to be back. You know, for me, it's one of the most beautiful tournaments that we are going to play on each year. You know, it's nice to be here. I like the conditions. I have to say Rome is a little bit after in the beginning of the clay season, so everybody gets a little bit used to the conditions. So, you know, as I said it's nice to be here and obviously trying to make the tournament in the best possible way.
