Xiyu Lin

Pattaya, Thailand

Siam Country Club Pattaya, Old Course

Quick Quotes

Q. I know 18, your 18th hole, was not maybe the way you wanted to finish today. What are your thoughts after your first round here?

XIYU LIN: I still think I play really good round. I mean, this morning was a little rush at the beginning because, I mean, we had that thunderstorm, so I kind of worry about the course going to be in good conditions or going to have any delays.

But it actually worked out so well. Like the course is in -- still in good shape and we had like nine holes of cool weather, which is like amazing here.

So I think today I didn't have my best game but I still managed to have a good score, which is pretty good. Like last couple holes, I mean, shows perfectly on last couple holes. I miss-hit some irons and stuff.

Yeah, overall I'm happy I still can shoot a score.

Q. You said that last week, too, that you didn't feel that you were playing at the top of your game, but here you are, especially there that last round in Singapore. How much do you think that momentum from last week carried over into today?

XIYU LIN: Well, it's definitely a good feeling when you come into a hot weather tournament week and you know you don't need to work a whole lot on your game. I mean, last two days I been trying to take it easy and just keep remembering all the good stuff I did last week and just try to do the same.

I think today it's definitely unexpected, like the conditions is very different than the practice round, like everything, but I still managed to do pretty well. Just able to hole the opportunities, and then at the tough holes. And besides the last hole I didn't have any drop shot; that's pretty good.

Q. What were some of the toughest holes you think were on the golf course today?

XIYU LIN: Well, I think this course, as long as you don't hit it straight it's pretty hard. They have some -- like if you miss on the wrong side there will be lots of downhill chip that's really hard to stop.

My back nine today I start to hit the ball a little bit off line, but I managed to save lots of good pars. So I just think, yeah, because this green today is way softer, so you kind of even wanted to go for it more.

So then there were a couple holes I got up there, I'm like, Maybe I should think of this as a short side, but I still managed to somehow save par.

Q. Did you feel as if you were more aggressive today than you thought you could be?

XIYU LIN: Yeah, for sure, because I remember this course, like the green used to be so firm and it's hard to stop the ball, and then today first couple holes like the ball spun a lot, and then like the 6-iron as well as my pitching wedge.

So, yeah, definitely think today -- and the front nine is so cool so, yeah, when I'm in the good mood I definitely need to go for that, yeah.

Q. I talked about it with you last week, last Sunday, but your caddie, David on the bag with you, won with Amy Yang in 2015. Has he been able to give you a couple pointers around Siam Country Club?

XIYU LIN: I think so. He know the course so well. Like there was one hole I think I pull my iron maybe five yard left and then he said, Good shot. I turn around and I said, You think that ball going to stay on the green? He said, Oh, yeah, and I got in, it did stay on. I'm like, Okay, maybe you know the course.

So, yeah, I trust him a lot here. Just like last week, just for me it's way less work. I just need to focus on my target and he always give lots of good information.

Q. When did you guys start working together?

XIYU LIN: Starting Pelican last year.

Q. So it's been a good fit?

XIYU LIN: Yeah, I mean, I know him for a long time and he's a good friend of my coach, and so he work for me once in Portland when Marty is not able to work. Then last year we work four tournaments, and this year when Marty told me she couldn't come back to caddie I asked him right away and he said yes right away, so it was nice.
