HONDA LPGA THAILAND

May 6, 2021

Celine Boutier

Pattaya, Thailand

Siam Country Club Pattaya, Old Course

Quick Quotes

Q. All right, nothing like a first day 68 there. How are you feeling after the first day here in Thailand?

CELINE BOUTIER: Pretty good. I feel like the fairways and the greens were a lot softer because of the storm that we had this morning or overnight. So I feel like I could be a little bit more aggressive, especially with my irons, which was pretty nice.

And I feel like I took very good advantage of the par-5s, which was good. So overall pretty happy with my round.

Q. Especially on those par-5s. The one on No. 1 really started off on your back nine, which is 1, 2, and 3, that consecutive birdie streak. What was going so right there?

CELINE BOUTIER: I just think that I had the opportunities. I just gave myself good opportunities and I rolled some good putts.

So I think that was key today. Yeah, I feel like also there they playing a little bit shorter because the pins were in the front, especially No. 1 and No. 10, so that made it a little bit easier for me.

Q. You've only been to this tournament one other time back in 2019. Do you remember anything from two years ago or does that feel like a lifetime away?

CELINE BOUTIER: No, I do remember a lot of the holes. I just feel like it was playing so different. It was a lot more firm, especially on the greens. And I remember I was also hitting a lot shorter that than now, so I feel like I'm pretty much place a different course.

I had such long irons for the green. Just the way I remember playing it is just different from what I've been playing it this week. So I just definitely remember the holes, but I feel like I'm playing a different course.

Q. Do you feel as if distance is something that you've been improving on, especially from the beginning the 2021 on to now?

CELINE BOUTIER: Yeah, for sure. I wouldn't say just 2021 but also 2020, and especially when we had a lot of weeks off around March, April. I kind of tried to take advantage of that and gain some speed, which definitely paid off.

It's nice to see the progression from two years ago or the year before seeing myself hitting shorter clubs and being able to shoot lower because of that.

Q. And on top of that, I feel as if you have been slowly getting back into your confidence in the 2021 season. We saw in the Kia Classic on coming off that T14 performance last week. Where you did feel in your game as we approach the rest of this week?

CELINE BOUTIER: It's definitely a process. I feel like my game hasn't been feeling that far off, but I was just having a hard time making putts end of last year and beginning of this year.

And last week was definitely pretty big for me because I finally saw some putts go in and stuff. And the greens were just rolling so perfect that it also helped.

I definitely hope that I can take that into my game and into my confidence for the next couple of weeks and the rest of the season.
