Quick Quotes

Q. Bubba, can you talk about was this one of those days when it's so good to have a partner because the conditions were so demanding and you know you don't have to be perfect?

BUBBA WATSON: Yeah, for sure. I thought I hit the ball really nicely. But having a partner that started off with a birdie-birdie, that helps a tremendous amount, and then he birdied 5. So he was 3-under early.

You know, I thought I was there. I missed a couple putts. Like he just said, we had a couple putts that broke one way but the wind was coming the other way, so it made it very tricky, especially with the gusty winds. And then for me to make those putts par-5s on the back nine, that turned the tide a little bit, gave him a little relief that his partner was there.

But yeah, I thought we both played well. He made a couple putts early, which helped us. I wish we could have got a few more. All in all, it's not a bad day at the end of the day.

Q. Scottie, can you talk about the format for tomorrow? Is it the kind of format you look forward to because of the fact you can make up so much ground or go the other way?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Yeah, I think so, and I think that suits us really well. I think like Bubba said, best ball, the days are really long, and sometimes you kind of lose focus, and just because the days are long, you've got to hit a lot of golf shots. And it's nice to always have that feeling that your partner is there, but sometimes it's almost better when you feel like there's no one there because then you really -- it kind of helps us both focus a little bit more.

So I think for alternate-shot, especially the way he plays golf, I feel like I'm never going to put him in a bad spot. I feel like he can play from anywhere. I just have a lots of confidence in him and the way he plays golf, and it makes me really comfortable out there playing alternate-shot.

Q. G-Mac was in here yesterday saying he wished it was a 72-hole alternate-shot tournament. Does that seem a little too stressful to you or would you like that idea?

BUBBA WATSON: Yeah, I would love it. That would be awesome. Some people go home after two rounds, and it could be us. But no, that would be a true -- I mean, the mental grind, and it would be faster for TV. We all want that.

But yeah, that would be phenomenal to do that. I'd love to do that. I'd be the first one to sign up.

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Yeah, I think it would be fun. I said yesterday, alternate-shot is the kind of days where you can separate yourself because you're making birdies and bogeys. Best ball it's really just birdies. The ability to separate yourself, especially on a golf course like this where there's a lot of trouble, I think alternate-shot would be a lot of fun.
