Patty Tavatanakit

Los Angeles, California, USA

Wilshire Country Club

Quick Quotes

Q. Okay, I ask this question just as we come off someone hunting you down for an autograph. How has life changed since you became a major champion?

PATTY TAVATANAKIT: Definitely getting a lot more attention. Not that it's a bad thing. Just a little overwhelming and I feel like I had to constantly be self-aware and just tell myself to calm down or focus more.

I've been kind of trying to be disciplined on doing my meditation to help with that.

Q. Is it enjoyable to have a little more attention? I mean, this is obviously what you strive for.

PATTY TAVATANAKIT: Not going to lie, I don't like it as much just because like now -- I'm just like naturally nice to everyone so I'm giving all this energy out and sometimes it tires me out.

It's a little different, like you obviously have to be nice to everyone since you're getting a lot of attention. I just feel like sometimes I just want a moment to myself and just everyone please ignore me like I'm not here, yeah.

Q. Do you feel like you've had the chance to soak it all in yet?

PATTY TAVATANAKIT: Yeah, I did. When I was back home I realized what I did. You know, it's big, but still, I'm like still hungry to go out and win more out here.

Q. And then I heard you brought doughnuts to UCLA's practice.

PATTY TAVATANAKIT: I did.

Q. What doughnuts did you bring?

PATTY TAVATANAKIT: Randy's Doughnuts.

Q. Those are good.

PATTY TAVATANAKIT: Yeah.

Q. What else have you done since you've been back in town and how excited are you to be here?

PATTY TAVATANAKIT: Just I feel like I'm home when I'm in L.A. Obviously I go to school here. It's close to here. I'm staying really close to campus, so I'm getting all the good vibes from everyone. A lot of memories driving down these roads and just being at Wilshire.

So a lot memories here. I basically like grew up as a good dominant player in college here in this city, so it means a lot just to come back and play here.

Q. Any specific memory? Any restaurant that you always went to or...

PATTY TAVATANAKIT: Yeah, Mario's right here. Really good Peruvian food just down the street from the course. Driving back you drive past Rodeo Drive and past Beverly Hills, a lot of great restaurants.

It's just a good vibe with the palm trees. It's a little busy, not something I would want to do for tournaments, but it's a nice feeling to be back and be in the kind of like the cool city again.

Q. You're still taking classes?

PATTY TAVATANAKIT: No, I'm not. I'm not. I'm not done, I'm --

Q. Just putting that on pause?

PATTY TAVATANAKIT: On pause.

Q. Last one, have you reassessed goals for 2021 and what your dreams look like now?

PATTY TAVATANAKIT: Yeah, nothing new. Just keep doing what I'm doing obviously, and a lot of it is process goal. I don't want to like hold on to the fact that I'm a major champion or any of that moving forward because I know golf is a tough sport. You can't really be ahead of yourself.

My goal, like it's just focus on my process each week and try to be mentally the best player I can be out there. I feel like that would take the job done. Hopefully couple more wins would be nice, but that's something I can't control, so I'm going to focus on things I can control.

Q. And then did I hear right, you and Leona are playing the Dow?

PATTY TAVATANAKIT: Yeah, yeah. That will be fun. I think she's playing really well and I think we'll have some nice fun there.
