LOTTE CHAMPIONSHIP

April 17, 2021

Lydia Ko

Kapolei, Hawaii, USA

Kapolei Golf Club

Quick Quotes

Q. First of all, how important was it for you to get to win?

LYDIA KO: I think it's obviously a lot of thoughts going through my mind right now. I know I played really solid golf coming into this week, and Sean in particular has been a huge help to (indiscernible) a lot doubt and questions in my mind.

Coming into -- like I told my mom this morning, honestly, before Marathon I couldn't even sleep on Saturday night. Because even though I had been in that position before because it had been such a long time, I think I was putting a lot of pressure on myself and I know there were expectations.

I slept great last night. I just said, Hey, my fate is all right chosen. I'm just going to play the best golf I can today. I hung in there.

I knew it wasn't going to be easy, especially around a golf course like this. Can go really low and it doesn't matter how far back you are, you can always be in it. I just continued to stick to my game plan, and I think this kind of -- it proves to myself. I think that's the biggest thing.

I could be here with my team and family, so I'm super grateful that they're with me along this journey.

Q. During the sleepless nights you may have had in the last three years almost, were there times where you truly wondered if this day would come?

LYDIA KO: Yeah, I think when you're in that position and it doesn't happen you do doubt. If I said no I didn't doubt myself at all I think that would be a lie.

Hand on my heart, I know there were times that I wondered, Hey, I don't know if I'm ever going to be back in the winner's circle.

But I'm obviously grateful for everything that has happened in my career, and I believe that we're in the position that we're meant to be in.

I just had an incredible fun week here in Hawaii, and just to be back in that position is obviously super cool.

And, yeah, I think with Jordan Spieth and Hideki Matsuyama winning the last couple weeks and I know it's been a while since they won as well, that kind of gave me a little bit of hope saying maybe I could follow that trend.

When you're playing alongside the best female golfers it's not easy. I'm proud of the way I stayed patient along the way. And I know there are still aspects my game I need to work on, so just keeping it simple and we keep moving forward.
