MASTERS TOURNAMENT

April 11, 2021

Matt Jones

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. A final round 72 has put you to 1-over to finish the 2021 Masters. How would you rate your week and what was your favorite moment of the week?

MATT JONES: Probably a disappointing week. I just didn't putt very well at all the whole week. I mean, I probably couldn't have got anything less out of every round than I did. I mean, it was great to play four rounds, but I definitely think I should have been a lot better than where I am.

But probably the highlight is probably the chip-in on 2 for eagle.

Q. What are the conditions out there at the moment? We know the Masters really starts with the back nine on Sunday. How is it playing with green speeds, pin placements and the wind?

MATT JONES: The wind is up. I hit a full 5-iron into 11, which was a lot of -- more than I've hit all week. 12 is going to be a little doozy this afternoon with this wind. But yeah, the pins are accessible. There's going to be someone that's going to make a little charge, 13, 15, 16. But they've just got to get through 10, 11, 12, and then they can make a few birdies, I think.

Q. What's the toughest one, 10, 11, 12?

MATT JONES: 11 will be the toughest hole.

Q. You've had a lot of support out there the last four days, friends and family flying out from Arizona, New Jersey. Your brother is here from Australia. What sort of a celebration will you have with them tonight?

MATT JONES: I won't get one. I've got a flight at 6:15 to go home. I've got three young girls at home, so I've been away from home. My wife has been here with me, so she's been away, as well. We'll get home late tonight, and my brother will come down, too. Hopefully he qualifies for the PGA Championship at Kiawah and I'll see him there. If not he'll come to Arizona.

Q. You talked about how you're sort of disappointed that you didn't get much out of each of your four rounds. How hungry does this make you to want to get back here right away?

MATT JONES: It does. I'm pretty tired right now. It's a very long week out here. This course beats you up, and there's a lot of mental stress on this golf course.

But I do feel comfortable on this golf course. It's just probably more so understanding it better, certain shots, certain situations. Like yesterday after it rained, the greens really slowed down. That's tough to get your head around how much they slowed down when I haven't experienced that.

Q. You think that was the number one thing from the week, you're just disappointed with your putting?

MATT JONES: Yeah, I hit it really good pretty much all week. I gave myself plenty of chances but just didn't really make anything, any long putts, and I missed a lot of short putts for birdie, and then made a couple of bad mistakes on par-5s, which really hurt me.
