MASTERS TOURNAMENT

April 11, 2021

Harris English

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. Pretty good round for you out there today. How would you assess how it went for you today?

HARRIS ENGLISH: Yeah, I was talking to my caddie coming up 18. I felt like I hit the ball better each day. I felt like I was more in control of my game. Just getting used to this place. I mean, some of the putts that look uphill, they play fast, or putts that break more than you see. It's just getting some experience, and it's nice to play four rounds here and see some of these pin locations because hopefully I'll be playing this thing a few more times and can have a chance to win it down the road.

It's good to see some of those putts and some of those shots that you'll see today, but the wind is up, it's tricky, it's swirling around. You've got to pick a club, be confident and make a swing. But I'm happy with shooting 2-under today. Could have made a couple more putts, but it is what it is, and this is my best round here at the Masters.

Q. What did you hit in there on No. 9?

HARRIS ENGLISH: No. 9 was a full 56-degree. We're trying to play it off these flags that are here, and I don't really know if it's helping or hurting a touch, and just kind of went with it. I saw my ball mark was past the flag and rolled back pretty close, so it's nice to have a tap-in there at the 9th.

Q. You got the win at Kapalua, playing really good right now. Is this the best stretch in your career do you think?

HARRIS ENGLISH: Yeah, I think so. I've got a good system with my coach back home in Sea Island, and I feel like I'm on the right path. It's definitely awesome getting back in this tournament. This is a dream, and this is my third time playing, and hopefully can be more.

This is where I want to be. I want to be playing in the biggest tournaments in the world and see how I stack up.

Q. What do you think the leaders can expect to see when they make the turn on that back nine?

HARRIS ENGLISH: Yeah, I mean, 10, 11, 12 is tough. Into the wind, you've got to hit some mid to long iron shots in on 10 and 11, and then 12, that wind is all over the place. It's a lot about timing and hitting the correct shot.

But I didn't feel like 13 through 16 played all that difficult. It just depends on what the wind is doing. You're going to have some tricky shots. But 13 is playing a little downwind. 14 is going the opposite way but playing a little downwind, so those are a little easier. And 15 is kind of all over the place. I saw Hideki got it back to 11-under. I think if he can stay at 11-under today, he'll win the tournament.

Q. Bryson struggled today, obviously, but he hit some tee shots where you had such short approaches. Are there spots on this course where you can almost hit it too far off the tee?

HARRIS ENGLISH: He did it on 8 where he hit it right, and he hit it in the azaleas over there. That's not in play for most of the guys. It's some give and take. Yeah, he flushed one on 18, but if he pulls it a hair left it's in that bunker and he really has nothing. You've still got to hit it straight out here. You can hit it as far as you want, but if you're playing out of the trees all day, it's not going to be good. But his good ones were good, and his off-line shots he got penalized.
