MASTERS TOURNAMENT

April 11, 2021

Abraham Ancer

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. If you could kind of assess the week as a whole.

ABRAHAM ANCER: Yeah, it was obviously a weird week, a week that I could have been really frustrated early and battled back. I played a good two rounds -- actually the first round was playing really tough. I played really well and grinded it out. Yesterday wasn't my best. I actually didn't hit it that bad.

But overall it's a week that I fought hard. I was really proud of my mentality, how I approached the week, and how I hit the ball. This is a golf course that you've got to be playing really solid throughout your game and also get some good kicks and get lucky a little bit, as well.

But that wasn't the case, but I'm happy. I'm not complaining. I'm looking forward to next week now and taking my game to the RBC.

Q. For the leaders who just teed off a few minutes ago, what kind of golf course can they expect this afternoon?

ABRAHAM ANCER: There's a lot of tough pins, but there's also some very gettable ones. I think the par-5s are going to be key. They're playing -- you can make some nice birdie, eagles, but it's also Augusta, it can go either way. So I think it's going to be a very exciting back nine for everyone watching. If the wind stays like it is, you're going to see some nice scores but also some numbers that can go the other way. It's going to be very interesting to watch.

Q. If you had to guess, what would be the lowest score today? What do you think is out there?

ABRAHAM ANCER: Today, probably 6-under. There's always someone that just kind of goes off, even if it's playing tough. And it is, but the greens are probably a little bit softer than what we had at the beginning of the week with the rain, and I feel like if somebody is on point and hitting some nice shots in there, the par-5s can really get you a low number out there.

Q. You've obviously spent some time with Hideki, also being a teammate of his in 2019. In the team room what was he like for the Presidents Cup in 2019?

ABRAHAM ANCER: He was actually very funny. I mean, he doesn't know much English, but we had a great time. He was a great team player, obviously great player, and I think he's got his game where he wants it to win this week. He can win any week. He's one of the guys that I feel like he obviously should have won more with his ability. He's been out here for a while now, and he's still very young, but he's a cool guy. He's got a lot of talent, and he's got everything to win here and really anywhere.

Q. What do you think it would mean in Japan for him to win the Masters?

ABRAHAM ANCER: Huge. When I was there for the ZOZO last year, the people watching him and Tiger was -- it was like a major. So for him to get this W, it's huge for Japan. I had no idea how big the following was of golf down there, and it was amazing. Had a great time over there, and it would mean the world I'm sure for all the Japanese people for him to win.
