MASTERS TOURNAMENT

April 9, 2021

Brooks Koepka

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. Assess how the last two days went.

BROOKS KOEPKA: I missed the cut, so it isn't very good, is it?

Q. Overall, just the play here today, just your round.

BROOKS KOEPKA: Putter was ice cold, didn't make any putts. I don't want to say the speed was off, maybe the reads a little bit. Maybe the start line. I'm not quite sure. A lot of them felt like good putts, and they just -- I mean, they weren't even hitting the hole. I don't know. It could be any one of those things. They felt good coming off the face, but they didn't even sniff it.

Q. It's your first time not playing the weekend at Augusta. Talk about how disappointing that is for you.

BROOKS KOEPKA: How disappointed do you think I am? I worked my ass off just to get here, and then to play like this is pretty disappointing.

Q. How bad was the walk on your knee?

BROOKS KOEPKA: Today was a lot better actually. I thought today was easier. I don't want to say easier, but yesterday was the first day walking 18, so you're obviously a little sore and all that stuff. I thought today -- I don't feel as sore as I did yesterday, so I feel better.

Q. Did you find ways maybe to kind of help it in certain areas like walking? I know downhill was kind of tough.

BROOKS KOEPKA: Yeah, downhill was tough.

Mark Wall told me a way to walk downhill, just fire your glutes a little bit, and it made it a little bit easier. The stride, it gets a little shorter when it's going downhill, just because I can't bend that knee. When you bend it, all the pressure goes in that spot.

It feels better than I thought it would, so I'm pretty pleased.

Q. What kind of shot stressed it the most?

BROOKS KOEPKA: Ball above your feet, downhill lie. Out here you're going to have a few of those. Those are really the shots I felt like I didn't -- that weren't struck as well. Coming off a little low, you're not getting back onto that side, not fully loading on the right side. When you're kind of working uphill, I've got two things working against me, and they just came out a little low and left.

Other than that, ball above your feet and downhill. Some of those, you get both of those.

Q. If it wasn't Masters week, would you have taken another week or two?

BROOKS KOEPKA: I wouldn't have been playing for another month if it wasn't this week. So I'll take a nice long break after this. Way I look at it, I have two more days to do rehab that I probably wouldn't get if I was out here, and I'll get ready for the PGA.

Q. Will that be the next time, the PGA?

BROOKS KOEPKA: It's tough to say right now. That's, what, five weeks ahead, I think? It's kind of tough to say that -- I won't miss it, I know that, but tough to say if I'll play anything before that just for how it feels, how rehab goes and everything.

Q. Having made it to this tournament, do you feel like you have a plan? You kind of know what to expect going into the PGA, since that's where you want to be?

BROOKS KOEPKA: Yeah, I mean, I'd like to practice a little bit more or be actually hitting balls before a tournament. A lot of it was just making sure I could walk and things like that. So the prep wasn't as good, but it's nice to know that I can walk 18. So at least that kind of is out of the way. We can start kind of the strength, which is two parts of the rehab process. Just, one, getting it to work, and two kind of strengthening it so it's not as fatigued and just getting the mobility out of it.

Q. The key was a little flatter?

BROOKS KOEPKA: Exactly. I like that.
