MASTERS TOURNAMENT

April 8, 2021

Matt Jones

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. Not too bad, mate. What did you shoot on 18? It hasn't come up yet.

MATT JONES: Par.

Q. So it's 74?

MATT JONES: Yes.

Q. Matt, 2-over 74 to start the 2021 Masters. A difficult stretch for the middle there, but you finished quite strongly.

MATT JONES: I did. I made a couple of mistakes out there, but it's getting windy right now. It's going to be tough, very tough this afternoon for these guys. 74, I would have liked to have played a few better, but I don't think it's going to be too bad overall.

Q. Augusta can punish you pretty quickly.

MATT JONES: Yeah, you let your guard down, you just forget exactly what you're doing or what you've done in practice, where you hit a putt, and it punishes you with a three-putt like it did on 14 for me. It's very easy. I missed the green with 9 iron on 10 and made a great bogey.

Q. You talked about the firm and fast conditions. How much tougher is that making the course at the moment?

MATT JONES: It makes getting access to pins very tough, and especially with this breeze coming up, they're going to be having -- there's guys out there are going to be having great putts, some tough putts, some tough chips. It's distance control, like probably the best iron player out there is J.T. He'll be a good one to watch this afternoon because iron play is going to be important out there.

Q. You had a fair bit of support out there. You've got some Aussie mates and some friends out from Scottsdale as well. I know it's only your second Masters, but how much more enjoyable is it playing out there when you've got a good, solid crew around you?

MATT JONES: It's great. I've got a couple of friends from Jersey. My brother flew over from Australia, and then friends from Scottsdale came in, and I've got a different crew coming in tomorrow. So it's great.

Last time everyone came in, but it was a bit muddled and didn't really know what was going on. It's a little bit more comfortable and relaxed this year.
