MASTERS TOURNAMENT

April 5, 2021

C.T. Pan

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. Is this the same golf course you played a few months ago?

C.T. PAN: It's not. It's different. It's very different. The weather is different. Obviously the greens are very different from the ones in November. It's much -- I mean, even though it's only Monday, it's much faster and firmer, so it's going to be a fun week ahead for sure.

Q. When you came here in November, your first Masters, did it really feel like your first Masters, or does this really feel like --

C.T. PAN: You know, with the spectators out there, patrons out there, this one definitely feels more like my first Masters. I have to say today I played nine holes out there with people following, a couple tee shots I had goosebumps just hearing people rooting for me, saying "good shot" out there. It was really cool.

Q. Did you skip it on 16?

C.T. PAN: Yeah, we did.

Q. Did you do it?

C.T. PAN: No, my ball just bounced -- had a low bounce straight into the bank again like last time I did. But I'm getting better at it.

Q. Did that part of it feel so much more fun having patrons?

C.T. PAN: Oh, yeah, so much more fun. People are cheering you up, and they even ask the caddies to do it. I guess it shouldn't be recorded, but they're out there rooting for us and making the best out of it.

Q. What do you do the rest of the week? Will you play 18 --

C.T. PAN: I'm playing nine holes every day. So I'm playing the front nine tomorrow and the back nine again on Wednesday because I want to do the skip shot successfully on 16 for sure, the next try.

Q. Was there a particular shot you might have had today that you had in November that was totally different?

C.T. PAN: I mean, I want to say the distances are about the same, but the way you're hitting into the green, the way the ball reacts after hitting a green, just totally different. So we do have to take that into account and think about where we land and give us more room.

But I'm sure everybody is saying this: The greens are faster and firmer, which will make it tougher to play, and which means your landing zone is much smaller. You don't have much room to miss. It's more demanding for sure.

Q. Do you take a local caddie?

C.T. PAN: Yeah, I did. I had success with Derrick Redd last November, was my first Masters debut. He helped me out a lot on the greens reading, so that's why I decided to continue using him as my caddie, and hoping for a good finish.
