AUGUSTA NATIONAL WOMEN'S AMATEUR

April 3, 2021

Emilia Migliacco

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quote

Q. Talk about how much fun that was out there today?

EMILIA MIGLIACCO: It was so fun. It was so special. That's all I wanted to do. I really wanted to enjoy this moment with my mom and this is probably one of the last times she's going to caddie for me and it was just a joy to be out there with her and with Pauline and her caddie. The course was just spectacular and it was awesome to have played well on top of it and to be competing at the highest level on the best course in the universe, pretty much, was truly an honor.

Q. Do you think a couple putts on the back that didn't drop, if you had to analyze your round?

EMILIA MIGLIACCO: Actually on Champions Retreat I bogeyed 7 twice and I bogeyed 15. Those are two holes with wedge in my hand, and then I bogeyed No. 7, which is a wedge hole. So that's four shots, and that's 3-under par.

So I actually birdied a lot of the hard holes. I did really well on 4, 12, the really tough holes I did great. Those four shots, I bogeyed maybe some holes that I should have at least pars but those are easy fixes. It's hard to fix hard holes but it's easy to fix the easy holes. So that's where I'm analyzing my game right now.

Q. Are you looking at the pros?

EMILIA MIGLIACCO: I'm not going to turn professional and I'm really happy with my decision. Golf has taken me so far. It's allowed me to played Augusta National which I wouldn't have dreamed of when I started playing and my whole life I wanted to play professional and be the No. 1 player on the LPGA but you know, you aim high and if you don't get all the way there, you get pretty far.

Yeah, I'm really excited to be a part of the Golf Channel team and just embrace a new chapter. But yeah, I have three more tournaments left, ACC, regionals, nationals, and I can't wait to play those with my teammates.

Q. What do you think will be the key as you wind down your career and get into the working world as an intern?

EMILIA MIGLIACCO: I think the key is just to enjoy the present and not focus too much on the future. Luckily I have my future a little planned out right now which is always nice and you don't really get to do that often. Just really embracing what I'm doing right now and I mean, I'm very confident in the skills that I have and I'm really excited to just continue learning and learning in a different arena.

Q. You're not closing the book on a possible pro career; you can always remain an amateur and see what happens?

EMILIA MIGLIACCO: Yeah, I'm going to remain an amateur. I'm pretty sure I'm not going to turn professional but I don't know what God has in store. I didn't know I was not going to turn professional, so who knows what's going to happen. I'm really excited for what's to come.

Q. Were there nerves on the first hole and did a birdie on the first calm those nerves?

EMILIA MIGLIACCO: I was pretty nervous before I teed off, but as I was warming up, I started to just develop this feeling of joy. And so I actually wasn't nervous the first tee. I was just really happy and that was all I wanted. That's kind of all I want for every tournament but especially for this one. Like I didn't want to be scared of messing up on the first tee. I just wanted to hit a confident swing and whenever it goes, it goes. I'm happy I hit it in the fairway.

Q. In 2019, you missed the cut. How was it to play a competitive round at Augusta National?

EMILIA MIGLIACCO: It's a lot different, I will say, even playing the practice round, you just feel so much joy. I feel for everyone who didn't make the cut because it is every girl's dream who is a golfer to play a competitive round here. And I know how much it stings. But it really motivated me this year, and I really had a great advantage, I felt, since I played the course already, Augusta National and Champions Retreat last time. But yeah it was a lot different.

Even when watching the Masters, it's just going to be so special just knowing I played a competitive round. Yeah, just thank you to Augusta National for really just promoting women's golf in the best way they can. It's just such a dream for all of us to be out here.

Q. And you're 2-under for your round today. Talk about your round and how you feel.

EMILIA MIGLIACCO: I feel great. If you would have told me I was going to shoot 2-under at Augusta National, I'll be like, okay, I'll take that. It was just so nice because a lot of people came out to watch, my boyfriend and his friend and my teammates and coaches and my dad. It was really special. They are happy for me regardless but it was really special to be able to play well and have them cheer me on. I made five birdies. Also wasn't, you know, expecting it but it was nice to have my iron game sharp. I'm very happy and very pleased with my round.

Q. You're currently clubhouse leader.

EMILIA MIGLIACCO: Yeah, I actually didn't think about being the clubhouse leader since I'm three or four back but yeah, that's pretty cool. I mean, I felt like I had to at least get to even par to have a chance but I mean, the girls are great but it's also, you know, a lot down the stretch and 18 is a tough hole. 17 is a good hole but 18 is a tough hole so we'll see what happens.

Q. What did Bubba say?

EMILIA MIGLIACCO: He told me, "Great up-and-down." I thanked him. I felt really good about that up-and-down. I knew I was going to do it. You just have to hit the slope and it's going to go close, so I was pretty confident. It was nice to have him congratulate me.
