AUGUSTA NATIONAL WOMEN'S AMATEUR

April 3, 2021

Karen Fredgaard

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. Pretty intense?

KAREN FREDGAARD: Well, it's definitely hard out there. You get -- there's so many people watching and you know there's people following you so you just need to try and focus on every shot and the exact challenge with that shot and how you want to hit that shot and forget about everything else which is very hard.

Q. What happened on 15?

KAREN FREDGAARD: Well, 15, I would always go for that pin if I had that distance in. I had around 210 yard. I know I can carry my longer hybrid and I hit a bad swing and it took a bounce over and back into the water. So I mean -- and then I hit that putt from like behind the flag downhill and I didn't think it was that fast at all and then it just like went straight away from me. On the next hole, I was like, now I can say I did Augusta with that putt.

Q. What were your emotions standing on the tee on 18?

KAREN FREDGAARD: I knew where I stood, yes. Actually, this might sound a little stupid but I thought my drive was going to be perfect. I didn't think I was able to reach the bunker, which obviously now is a mistake that I need to take some notes from and learn from. It sucks a lot right now, but in the future, that's something that I need to learn from because that -- if you're in that bunker, there's nothing really you can do except getting out of it, and then it's really hard to make your par from there. My line was actually towards that bunker. I didn't think I was able to reach it.

Q. In the practice round did you try that?

KAREN FREDGAARD: In my practice round I hit a great drive and I was like 25 yards short of it. It was way colder yesterday, so I think that's why, and here we're not allowed to hit any more balls than just one off the tee. So I just thought it was the same line and I hit a perfect shot on that line that I wanted to, but just hit it too far.

Q. Was there a moment when you captured the leaderboard --

KAREN FREDGAARD: Yeah, it's almost impossible not to look at the leaderboard out here because it's huge and it's almost every hole. So of course you notice the leaderboard, but I actually tried to just focus on each shot and what that exact shot had to do, and how far and just how to hit it and how I wanted to hit it.
