AUGUSTA NATIONAL WOMEN'S AMATEUR

April 2, 2021

Tristyn Nowlin

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Press Conference

Q. So you played a practice round two years ago and now again today. How did it compare?

TRISTYN NOWLIN: I think I was actually just mentioning that, but I think the difference today is definitely the wind. That's something that I've always been interested in, especially going around Amen Corner. You know, having those winds whip around was definitely different.

I remember two years ago, it definitely wasn't as breezy and it was a little softer out there. Definitely some difficult conditions but enjoyed it just the same.

Q. How did the experience compare and the week compare?

TRISTYN NOWLIN: Oh, just as special, I think even more special, more so this year, just because not having that opportunity last year and having that extra year to kind of prepare mentally get ready for the week but you know just the same experience, just a special one I'll remember for a lifetime.

Q. Do you think there's more or fewer nerves?

TRISTYN NOWLIN: Yeah, I think this time going around there was definitely less nerves. This is an opportunity I'm definitely grateful for, especially getting that fifth year to compete for Illinois, so really just embracing every moment and not taking anything for granted and not getting ahead of myself. So really limited nerves out there.

Q. How does it feel to represent the big I?

TRISTYN NOWLIN: It's amazing. It's different not having my team here but being able to chat with them and my coaches and I have my coach's husband on the bag. To have him here keeps them close to heart so that's pretty special. He was behind the ropes today so that was pretty special.

Q. Has he caddied for you at other events?

TRISTYN NOWLIN: He has not. He mentioned he wanted to caddie earlier in the year so I took him to a local university course and caddied. He keeps me focused but also just kind of out of my head which is what I definitely need.

Q. Do you think this week will help you?

TRISTYN NOWLIN: Absolutely. Some really good feedback. I think Champions Retreat brings out the best in people but also shows you your weaknesses, so I actually had a conversation with Coach yesterday about areas that it showed me I need to improve upon and areas that it boosted my confidence. So some good feedback for the week.
