AUGUSTA NATIONAL WOMEN'S AMATEUR

March 31, 2021

Candice Mahe

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. So when you first heard that Augusta National was going to have a Women's Amateur back in 2019, what was your thought?

CANDICE MAHE: I was really excited because I think it's a really good week for women's golf to promote the golf. I wish we had more tournaments like that because everything is crazy here. All of the organization is just wonderful. We have a chance to play really two good golf courses. Tough, but really good golf courses, and I hope that's going to continue, and it's going to be good for women's golf.

Q. So women's golf kind of fell off due to the pandemic last year. Did you have any thoughts coming into that?

CANDICE MAHE: Yeah, I was really kind of sad because I was really well prepared before COVID happened, but I think it's life. Sometimes there are things more important than golf, and I think it helps to have priorities. I hope we're going to be back to normal soon, back in classes too. That's what we can just hope for the future.

Q. You mentioned it being kind of tough out there. Kind of tell me what's tough about it?

CANDICE MAHE: On this course, I think it's really challenging around and on the greens because the greens are really firm, and you have to stay focused on every, every shot. There is no shot that you can be, okay, I can just hit it middle of the fairway. You need to think on every shot you have, and I think that's the most challenging part of this course. But it's still really enjoyable.

Q. What's your mindset going into tomorrow?

CANDICE MAHE: I think I'm going to stay with the same mindset because my game was really solid. It's just I missed three or four putts. I could be much better than that. But I just hit it shot by shot, first fairway and then green. We'll see and kind of see how it goes tomorrow. But I'm going to give myself the best.

Q. Did you play the course before today?

CANDICE MAHE: Yeah, I did. I had the chance to play three times before, with one of my friends who's a member here. I think it helps. Not enough, but it helps.

Q. Do you feel any local support being with Georgia?

CANDICE MAHE: Yeah, we do feel that because everyone is saying "Go Dawgs." Yeah, it's really, really cool. It's a good atmosphere. Our coach is there too, and we have three from Georgia, so that's really helpful.

Q. How was last night at Augusta National?

CANDICE MAHE: Oh, yesterday night was so good. The food was really good. As French, I really like it, so you have to take that. We have a chance to play with the team just before COVID happened. So it was really good, but it's still a wonderful experience to be there.
