AUGUSTA NATIONAL WOMEN'S AMATEUR

March 31, 2021

Ana Pelaez Trivino

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. How do you feel about your round today?

I feel pretty good. I think I could have had a couple more birdies, but I also feel I could have had a couple more bogeys out there. So I'd say it's a pretty good start for the tournament.

Q. Why do you think the scores have relatively been so high?

I don't know. Honestly, I don't know. I think the wind played a role today, especially on the par 3s, but I'm not quite sure. Also, I wasn't looking at the scores too much today. So I really don't know.

Q. Talk about last night. How was it last night?

Last night, amazing. I was so sad I could not take any videos and pictures, but I think that's the secret and like why we all want to be there. Dinner was great. It was very nice to meet the Chairman and everyone there. I think it's something I'll never forget in my life.

Q. What are your expectations for tomorrow?

Same ones. I mean, I want to win this tournament, and that's what makes me try to do -- like just take one shot at a time tomorrow. I think I'll just do the same thing, but my expectations are the same ones.

Q. What is your biggest emotion being here this week? How would you describe the feeling of anticipation to be here?

You said biggest emotion?

Q. Emotion, yeah.

That's a good question. Some part of me feels extremely grateful to have the opportunity to be here, and at the same time, I don't want to let the emotion of being here and like the -- just feeling like, you know, you're so lucky, to not let me do my best or to feel just comfortable being here.

I'm here, and I'm enjoying it. Now, when I play on the course, I'm a player, and I want to win. So, yeah, I'm not sure how to describe that emotion, if that makes sense.

Q. After the year we've all had with the pandemic, does it feel bigger to be here now? And does this feel a little closer to normal than anything that's felt in a long time? Like something good is happening?

Yes. I can see I've been very lucky this past year. My family's healthy. I've had time to work with my coach back home. I don't think there's much I can ask for. I've had a great golf season this past year, and definitely being here feels like a great thing that is happening during this pandemic. Yeah, I think that answers.

Q. Which tournaments or performances in your career do you think have kind of shaped you as a player or tournaments that you've learned about?

I'd like to think that every single tournament makes me a better player, but definitely the ones I feel the more pressure. So I would say playing the LET tournament back home, playing that tournament gave me the opportunity to like actually -- so let's say I practice my routine or like how to handle pressure. That tournament was like -- I don't know how to say it. Like somewhere I could prove to myself that I work on that and I'm able and capable to handle, if that makes sense.

I also had another professional event where I knew I had to do well, I knew I had to shoot low, and it was great to just like go on the course knowing that and still go in and play one shot at a time.

Q. What were your expectations heading into the LET event?

Honestly pretty high. I wanted to win. That's always my expectation and my goal. I was very happy finishing third, but obviously I wanted to finish first, but definitely it was great. My performance, I think was pretty good, especially starting with a three over the first day. So, yeah, the comeback was great.
