ATLANTIC COAST CONFERENCE WOMEN'S BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

March 4, 2021

Georgia Amoore

Greensboro, North Carolina, USA

Virginia Tech Hokies

Postgame Press Conference

Virginia Tech 72, Miami 64

Q. That third quarter, you guys took a big lead but then they kind of slowly came back. Take me through what the team's mentality was. Did you guys feel like even though you were up big you still had to play like you were down by three?

GEORGIA AMOORE: We were expecting them to try and fight back. Miami is a tough team and they were never going to give up, but I guess we had that lead and that was a really big hope. I think it was just staying composed because as soon as we gave into their pressure, then that's when things would have gone south.

I think we did a really good job of staying composed and handling the pressure really well and making sure that their pressure didn't translate into them scoring more points.

Q. How does it feel to get a postseason win like this?

GEORGIA AMOORE: I mean, it's pretty big. I was gray shirted last year however you want to call it, and watching them lose their first game to Wake, it was kind of like, Damn we had that against Wake especially.

Definitely that was in the back of the mind coming into this game knowing that it would feel really good to get this win and it would help us going further on.

Q. You guys really came out and dominated that first quarter and kept it up in the second quarter. What helped you guys take control of that game so early on?

GEORGIA AMOORE: Just controlling the tempo. I think the last game that we played them they pressed pretty much the whole time and they had more of an aggressive press.

So we were expecting that, but as soon as we handled that, just bringing it to the half court, setting and making sure we get a decent and composed shot.

Q. What does it say about this team, obviously you lost Sheppard in the second quarter and yet you still won this game.

GEORGIA AMOORE: I mean, it was in the back of my mind. I was playing for her for sure, and I know how bad she wanted to be out there. You could see on the sideline the way she was cheering and the way she was in the huddle.

I think all of us kind of knew that she would have killed to be out there.

Q. What made your team's defense so effective today?

GEORGIA AMOORE: They were making adjustments mid-game and following them, because they made offensive adjustments, and if we didn't make any defensive ones, they would have scored.

Q. Now you've got round three with NC State. What's your thoughts about playing the Wolfpack again tomorrow?

GEORGIA AMOORE: It's the next game. We're 1-0, so tomorrow's game is going to be 1-0 and just approach it with that mentality.

Q. Does it help knowing the fact you've won against them this year? Does that help you guys?

GEORGIA AMOORE: I mean, it helps, but it's just tomorrow's game and whatever opponent we have is who we have, and we just want to bring it all out there.

Q. For you as an individual this is your first ACC Tournament game. What did you do to prepare for this?

GEORGIA AMOORE: Nothing different, to be honest. It was just like any other game, watch film, have a shootaround, and just made sure I'm locked in and knowing the scout.
