Media Conference
Q. Brandon, how are you doing? Can you just walk us through what this summer was like? I know it was kind of an extended free agency process, but ultimately the decision to sign in Golden State.
BRANDON WILLIAMS: Yeah, it was a long offseason, for sure. Just uncertainty of where I was going to play, where I was going to live. It was a lot going on and a lot to go through that, but I'm glad it's over now. Glad I'm back in California and back with someone that I know, under a great organization.
Q. I know you I think earlier at one point this summer ongoing talks, and you had a Zoom call with Steph at one point. What did you just talk through even on that? What was the process of Melt and those guys recruiting you a little bit?
BRANDON WILLIAMS: So I want to get that out the way. I didn't have no Zoom call with Wardell. I saw that, but I think that was from my trainer. I had a Zoom call with Mike and Steve, and so in the middle of the workout I was kind of just messing with them saying I got to leave because I'm about to hop on a Zoom call, and he took it as Wardell, and everybody ran with that.
But it was cool, but like I said, it was good to finally be here. Good to finally be under a team again, under an organization where I can learn.
Q. You're a guy whose game was built on speed, getting to the rim. How do you see your skill set fitting on this team and especially playing with Steph, and how do you see that going?
BRANDON WILLIAMS: Just coming off the bench is bringing something that he doesn't, doing the stuff that he doesn't. We know that he can shoot threes from anywhere on the court, but for me just getting into the paint and letting my ability just dictate what to do, even if that's to score, to set up my teammates or just being a pest just by getting to the paint. I feel like I can help the team out in any regard.
Q. The Warriors offensive system it's considered one of the more complicated in the league. I was wondering, D'Anthony Melton, has he helped you get adjusted to the system, or is it really that complicated? Just wondering.
BRANDON WILLIAMS: No. Yeah, D'Anthony has been helping me. Steph has been helping me. The whole team, honestly, just by getting comfortable, getting up and down and telling me what I need to learn and work at, like, the ball. We're going to learn a lot more especially this upcoming week for sure.
Q. With your time in Dallas what are some things that you picked up from playing for Jason Kidd and the same team as Kyrie?
BRANDON WILLIAMS: I learned a lot from those Hall of Fame guards. Not just them two, but from Luka as well. Those are three Hall of Fame guards that I wouldn't be too smart if I didn't take something from them.
But just to play at a pace. Everybody knows I'm pretty fast, so if I can just -- I think J-Kidd always used to use the term instead of sixth gear going to fourth gear sometimes or third gear and trying to just mix that up. Phil Handy was another one who told me that as well.
Just learning from those guys and seeing what they can do at a slower pace, and I can mix in my pace as well and then giving them a different look at the game.
Q. What are your expectations and goals for this upcoming season?
BRANDON WILLIAMS: Expectations, first and foremost, I want to win. I haven't been on a winning team I don't think ever in my career. Just to be under this organization and knowing everything they built on and this winning championship culture and everything like that. I already have seen it, but to actually feel it coming up here this week and going into the first part of the season, I think that's going to be a big part.
