GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS MEDIA CONFERENCE

September 28, 2026

Gui Santos

San Francisco, California, USA

Media Conference

Q. (Off microphone).

GUI SANTOS: I think that was July 3rd. We've been living together and now me and Julia. It's definitely changed. I was a guy that, you know, when I moved here, I was by myself, like, living just me and myself, and now I got somebody to share life, somebody that when you got home and you're not by yourself no more, you got somebody to talk, you got somebody that if something happened, you know that you can count on her 100%.

I think that's the thing, like, really changed for me. We were together for six years already, but when you live together and when you guys marry, it's a different life. I think that's the biggest difference right now.

Q. How are you feeling about entering the season after the career year you had last year, and what are your kind of expectations for the season?

GUI SANTOS: So for me I take, like, the last part of the season, you know, that I was playing a little bit more, contributing a little bit more for the team. That's my goal. Keep the same high level to keep, like, they need me to score more points, I will be able to do it. If they needed to helping other parts of the game, I will do it too.

Definitely I want to take the last part as a good example what I can bring to the team and keep doing it, keep doing it night over night.

Q. At the same time, Steve talked at length kind of about this reimaging, you know, for the team a little bit. Obviously it sounds like at times different focus offensively, less turnovers, this or that. How do you balance this period where you were able to spread your wings and what's your understanding of maybe what he wants differently now from this group moving forward and how you can move into that?

GUI SANTOS: I think the things that he's focused on in this year is almost stuff that is we were looking at last year too, but we couldn't execute that way, like turnovers. We were I would say to myself, like, I was turning the ball over more than I should, and this year I'm just trying to, you know, like you said, make sure that I fit in the system and the things that he wanted me to do.

Doesn't matter, like I said, what is that paper. I will do it the best way that I can, you know? I'm going to be the same Gui that brings the energy every night. Probably just take care of the ball and make sure that we got the same things -- same good things from last year and the bad things. We just move forward and keep doing better.

Q. Obviously a lot of bodies in the room now, forwards, different body types. Yaxel coming in, still kind of have to see how rotations and lineups are going to shake out. Is it your goal to try and compete for a starting job at the three or maybe at the four in different lineups? What's your mentality in that regard?

GUI SANTOS: For me it doesn't make any difference if you start the game or start off the bench. At the end of the day if you help your team to win, that's what really matters. For me that's a good thing. You know, now we got Yax, like a big forward, a guy that can help us a lot, and he's ready to help right now.

We know when he was playing in Michigan last year, he won a championship last year. He came for the Summer League. Like, we won the Summer League Championship. Of course, I'm just happy to have, like, you know, more guys that can help us, like Georges. We got Georges. We got B-Will, a guy that is really good too that can help us.

For me about the expectations or just starting the game or don't start the game, it's not going to change nothing. Steve call my name, and I'll step on the court. I will bring the best that I can.

Q. You've obviously shown improvements over every season of your career. Where do you think your game can take leaps this year?

GUI SANTOS: I think play more under control, you know? A lot of times was trying to rush it a little bit last year, and that's when I was turning the ball over, when I was committing a lot of mistakes, and this year I know, like, after been watching Jimmy for, like, almost two years, you know, I know that for me I'm a guy that if I play under control, every time I step into the paint, use the two feet to take the next decision.

So for me I think it's just playing under control. Watching Jimmy and watching these guys and how they do it is really what takes you to the next level.

Q. A lot of those times when you got sped up and in a rush a little bit was in the second half of last season when you had the ball in your hands a lot more. What did you learn from that experience as more of a playmaker, and what might you be able to apply from that?

GUI SANTOS: Exactly. Everything was so new for me. I used to play like this before I got to the NBA. Then I got to the NBA, I changed a little bit my play style. I was back to the same, you know, like Gui that was playing kind of like point guard in Brazil.

So I learned a lot about it because when you been through the situations, I think there is nothing better for you to learn something than just being through the situation. That was what happened last year.

I been in every situation you can imagine and remember last year I could shoot the shot to win the game against New York, you know, and I pass it to QP.

So I've been in every situation since I start playing a little bit more, so that's what helped me and what really going to be a big differential for me to be more, like -- how you say -- more ready for the next situation that's about to come.

Definitely just play more under control, and that is going to take me to the next step that I need to take.
