NASCAR MEDIA CONFERENCE

June 28, 2026

Shane van Gisbergen

Frontstretch Quotes

An Interview with:

Q. I was wondering if your legs had anything left to kick that ball. Is the victory a little bit sweeter when you were working your butt off inside the race car to get it?

SHANE VAN GISBERGEN: Yeah, what a day. We were really bad yesterday, and these guys did an amazing job turning this car into a winner. The 19 was coming. He was really, really good, and I ran out at the end.

But thank you to Red Bull, Trackhouse, Chevy. Pretty special to make up for last week, too.

Q. Talk about last week. You don't get do-overs in racing, but this is about as close as you get. How much did you bring the fire and the anger, we saw that Shane, into the race today?

SHANE VAN GISBERGEN: No, I was back to normal by the weekend, but yeah, I was certainly pissed at the start of the week. This really makes up for it sharing it with these guys. They went through it at the start of the week. Pretty special to win.

Q. Those final laps we heard you on the radio. You were hanging on. Were those some of the toughest laps that you have raced in one of your wins?

SHANE VAN GISBERGEN: Yeah, we had these sh-- boxes come out in front and they were wobbling all over the track and putting dust and I just kept struggling. Chase was just really, really good. Yeah, a couple more laps we would have had some problems.

Q. I know it's about the here, now, and celebrating this victory, but the big picture is making the chase. You're 14th in the points, 36 above that line. Is this enough momentum to get you to the postseason?

SHANE VAN GISBERGEN: It certainly helps, but I need to really step it up on the ovals. We all do. Yeah, certainly helps us, but this is an oval championship, and I need to keep getting better at them.

Q. Happy with that range on the kick?

SHANE VAN GISBERGEN: I almost made it. I'll try again next year.
