UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT SAN ANTONIO FOOTBALL MEDIA CONFERENCE

November 11, 2023

Trey Moore

San Antonio, Texas, USA

Press Conference

UTSA 34, Rice 14

Q. What do you think led to that?

TREY MOORE: I think really just rolling along all three phases, and when that happens it comes easy. You know, not easy necessarily, but when everyone is rolling, offense is helping defense, special teams is helping defense, everyone is helping each other.

Then let them touchdown happen late in the first half. We weren't too happy about that, so cleaned up the mistakes, locked in, and ready to go in the second half and started rolling.

Q. What do you think has been the key to the defense's success during this winning streak?

TREY MOORE: I think just continuing to play together and continuing to play relentless. I know I sound like a broken record when say that every week, but that's what it is. We feel like we found the method and we're really rolling right now, so it's good to see.

Q. Trey, you had sacks on back-to-back plays. What was this sequence like for you?

TREY MOORE: It was good. I feel like I was in the backfield all game, just really trying to get to the quarterback, if he was going to ball out or step it up or whatever it was. So finally just he held onto the ball a bit longer and I was able to get to him.

Q. What's it like for this team being on this winning streak right now?

TREY MOORE: Feels good. You know, after that first month it was a rough month. Now we're rolling and in November now. Everyone knows, November to remember, so just trying to finish out the season strong, and ya'll know what the end goal is.

Q. Third straight year you've been rolling undefeated through a conference season to start out. How do you compare it to the last couple years? Anything different?

TREY MOORE: I know we jumped conferences, but when this team is rolling and doing what we do all three phases of the game, I feel like it's hard for us to get beat. I feel like I really take our team up against anybody.

You know, it's really nothing different. We keep doing us and it's working out.

Q. Trey, you had six sacks and two forced fumbles on defense tonight. How great is it see you and your teammates playing at high level, especially going into the next few games?

TREY MOORE: Yeah, feels great, because Rice is a good team. They're a good offense. We've seen them through the year but up a bunch of points on good defenses, so to come out and have the show we had tonight -- we know the quarterback was down, but still a good player, No. 12.

Then offense is great and offensive coordinator and the things they do on offense, so just for us to come out and execute. Coach was saying execution outlasts momentum, and we got some momentum and we continued to execute and we came out victorious.

Q. It was close at halftime, but you guys were able to break it open in the third. What was the biggest keying to turning it around like that?

TREY MOORE: Like I said, the execution piece. On offense we were kind of shooting ourselves in the foot. We weren't executing like we can. Defense, we were doing good in the first quarter and throughout the first half, but we gave up that drive late.

So we just came out and executed where we needed to execute and cleaned everything up and started rolling.

Q. Trey, Rice obviously didn't have their starting quarterback today. How was the offense different from what you studied on film?

TREY MOORE: Yeah, No. 12, they have three quarterbacks that we've seen this year, JT Daniels, 12, and then No. 9. You know, didn't know who to expect, 12 or 9, but 12 ran the offense more like JT Daniels does, so similar to what they been doing all year.

Not as --more of a scrambler, more of a runner. Same things we been working on. We were ready for all three quarterbacks. Whoever was up we were ready for him, and happened to be 12 and we were ready for him.
