UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT SAN ANTONIO FOOTBALL MEDIA CONFERENCE

October 22, 2022

Frank Harris

San Antonio, Texas, USA

Press Conference

UTSA 31, North Texas 27

Q. Frank, what is it about these two-minute drives that seems like you guys are pretty comfortable in that offense?

FRANK HARRIS: We always practice them. I think we're pretty good in tempo. We're out there executing. We like to play fast, and I think we definitely went out there and executed at a great pace, and I think we did again tonight.

Q. What was your reaction to the catch that Oscar made down the middle on that final drive, the one-handed grab?

FRANK HARRIS: I told him if they're going to play a certain coverage, he's got to take the middle the field; I'm going to come his way. Sure enough, they did, and I don't know how he caught the ball, but definitely glad he caught the pass. Oscar is clutch when it comes down to it.

Q. Then you go right back to JT after that and he comes with a touchdown. Can you take us through that play and what you saw there?

FRANK HARRIS: The play call was designed to throw in the outside lanes, I seen a a one-on-one with JT. So I throw it, give him a chance. Kind of like a redo from the Army game. JT likes to go out there and make me right. He's a great football player.

Q. Frank, how big is this win for you guys in the grand scheme of things?

FRANK HARRIS: You know, it means a lot to us. Bowl eligible, go out there executing. We were both at the top of the conference, and heading into the bye week, it definitely means a lot for us, so definitely going to learn from this, keep growing, and there's still a lot of football left.

Q. What did you make of the way North Texas defended you? How did it compare to other defenses you have faced this year? Was there differences?

FRANK HARRIS: You know, they were kind of doubling our single guys to the field, playing a unique coverage. Really cover four, but it's definitely a lot of other things that they were playing within it.

So we had to run the ball a lot more than throwing the ball. Whatever defense does, we just go out there and execute and just take whatever they give us. Definitely running the ball tonight, I think we did a great job running the ball.

Q. The first half it was obviously tough for you guys, but then down the stretch obviously you scored a few touchdowns in a row there. What was the difference or how did you guys get rolling at that level?

FRANK HARRIS: At the beginning of the game, we just couldn't finish the drives. We were executing everything, but when it came down to it, we just weren't executing. That's something that we just have to keep working on, keep growing on. That's something that we can't keep happening offensively. We can't have those slow starts, and it's just something that we've just got to keep growing on.

Q. Frank, the offensive line seemed like you had a few guys go down and they had to shuffle some guys around. How would you say those guys played tonight despite all that?

FRANK HARRIS: The offensive line did a great job. We ran the ball very well, even in the passing game, as well. Like you said, next guy up. Whatever it is, we've got to move a guy over here.

Those guys keep going out there straining each and every day, whether it's at practice or during the games, getting thrown in the fire. Hats off to those guys; they definitely don't get the credit that they deserve, but they definitely deserve it.

Q. You guys have played eight straight games without the bye week. How much do you guys need this week off?

FRANK HARRIS: We definitely need this week off just to get back, get our bodies back, get our minds right, relax, keep learning, keep growing, and like I said, a lot of football still in front of us.

Q. Was there anything that you thought was key to getting the running game going as well as you did? You had a lot of different people run for I think it was over 200 yards as a team.

FRANK HARRIS: Like I said, do whatever the defense -- whatever they give us. If they want to drop eight or have a light box, we've got to be able to run the ball in that scenario. That's what we're doing.

I think we did a great job just going out there, just taking whatever they gave us, and the offensive line did a great job of just creating some holes with running backs, and running backs did a great job of just running the ball.
