LOS ANGELES FOOTBALL CLUB MEDIA CONFERENCE

August 4, 2021

Kim Moon-hwan

Press Conference

Sporting KC 4, LAFC 1

Q. Can you talk about what was the hardest part about not having Murillo and Segura in the back line in this game?

KIM MOON-HWAN: Yeah, I mean, obviously I've played with Eddie and Murillo from the beginning of season and we've developed a solid chemistry. Doesn't mean that we don't have chemistry outside.

Obviously Marco is somebody that I also play well, too, and we have chemistry together as well, too. However I think today was just not our night and due to those factors, we went down and the result was not the one that we wanted.

Q. What's the most frustrating part of losing points at home and those mistakes that keep happening where the other team just gets on target and get a goal?

KIM MOON-HWAN: Yeah, I mean, it's frustrating. We try our best. I don't think any of the players show up thinking that we want to lose games.

Obviously playing in front of our home crowd and our fans, I think that's the one that I feel the most bad about. We always want to give the fans positive result and of course away wins are extremely important but being able to win in front of your fans and give them the victory while they are cheering is something we look forward to doing every game, and we just didn't have that result today.

Q. We saw some positives in terms of the effort that some of the young guys that came in had late in the game. What will that mean moving forward, especially now that the team will have three games, three away games in a row?

KIM MOON-HWAN: Yeah, I mean, of course it's always good to have young players come in and play, and they are playing with high energy, and it's also -- young players are also somebody that I have to compete with for my position and my spot, but nonetheless, when young players come in and perform well, they have high intensity and energy.

And just because they are young doesn't mean that they are not skilled or capable, and as they showed tonight. So obviously it's something that is good for the team and it's for the betterment of the team. So I mean, looking forward to continuously seeing the development.

Q. Seemed like you were struggling a little bit against Luis Martins sporting Kansas City, a very experienced player, and in Spain as well. Was he one of the best players you've faced so far in MLS?

KIM MOON-HWAN: Yeah, I think for sure there was -- I must admit there was a lot of pressure coming from Luis Martins as a player, but I think I reflect a little bit more about my own play and my own mistakes that I've made and things that I think I could have done better.

You know, yeah, not hard to tell that the player is a skilled and talented player, however I think I'm just looking at myself and what I could have done better to have had a better game. But nonetheless, yeah, very skilled player. A lot of pressure on my end.

Q. And how are you feeling physically? It's been about a month or two since you started starting every game. Are you getting up to speed with how the schedule with MLS works? How are you feeling physically, the schedule in MLS obviously a little different from how it used to work in Korea.

KIM MOON-HWAN: Yeah, I think the biggest difference between Korea and playing here in the MLS is away games, having to travel every single game away game on the plane is something that's definitely physically taxing and something that tires you out.

However, I have a contract here, and as long as I'm here, I'm not just here for a week or a month. I'm here to stay for the duration of my contract. It's something that I definitely need to get used to and that's something that I need to learn how to cope with and I need to get better at, and things that I need to get used to as quickly as possible.

Sure, physically, I may be getting tired, but again, as I have stated, I'm here to stay and this is something that I need to work on and get in better shape, and to -- and to digest all these games as it comes.
